Tips on Tumbling

Post by Tyson » Thu May 31, 2012 8:44 pm

Post any general tips you have that people can apply to their tumbling. Hopefully we'll get Declan Stacey (recently placed 2nd in Australia on floor) to post some of his advice.

2 tips I can share with you that helped me, and what I know would help a lot of beginners (and maybe some more experienced tumblers as well) is to:

1. Never look at the ground. If you do that is where you're going to go.
2. Land on the balls of your feet, not flat foot or heels. This is essential for an efficient punch or when blocking. This tip is what landed me my first standing back tuck to punch front :D

3rd tip...

When thinking about rotation such as in a front tuck (or back tuck) think about wanting the hips to travel over the head. This is opposed to thinking that you need to bring your head down and under (in the case of a front tuck). After all, the point of rotation is at the hips and not the head.
